A colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure performed after an abnormal Pap test or positive HPV screening. It allows your provider to closely examine the cervix using a specialized microscope called a colposcope.



If necessary, a small tissue sample (biopsy) may be taken for further evaluation. The procedure is performed in the office, usually takes less than 30 minutes, and helps identify any cervical changes that may require treatment.
